Let's be real, 'getting ready' has taken on a whole new meaning. Gone are the days of leisurely prep. Now, if we manage to brush our teeth, that's a win. And on a good day? Maybe we'll brave jeans and dab on some mascara. Styling our hair? That's reserved for those rare, lucky moments!
As any new mom knows, the seemingly simple task of getting ready for the day can suddenly feel like an overwhelming challenge when there's a baby in the mix. Gone are the mornings of pre-baby life; now, it's all about efficiency, multitasking, and, let's be honest, a bit of chaos management. But fear not! With some strategies (maybe some tears) and a bit of humor, you can navigate this new terrain like a pro.
•Understanding the New Normal
For starters, it's important to reset expectations. Pre-baby, you might have had the luxury of an hour to primp and prepare. Now, time is a precious commodity. Accepting that your routine will look different is the first step in adapting successfully.
Just a little reminder: if you feel like your world has been completely transformed, you're not alone. I've experienced it too. My world was flipped upside down - not negatively, but it certainly stirred a sense of lost identity. Though I've gained an incredible new role as a mom, navigating this change and embracing my new identity has been a challenging yet rewarding journey. I wouldn't change any of it for the world she is perfect in every sense of the word.
Tips for an easier Morning Routine:
1. Prep the Night Before: Lay out your clothes, pack the diaper bag, and prepare anything you need for the next day. These small steps can save precious minutes in the morning.
2. Create a Baby-Safe Space in the Bathroom: Setting up a safe space for your baby in the bathroom can be a game-changer. A bouncy seat or a play mat with toys can keep your little one entertained and within sight while you get ready.
I take our Bumbo Seat, when she was a few week's younger I would put her in her Angel Care Bath Seat with a blanket while watching her of course so I could at least brush my teeth or pee.
3. Master the Art of Multitasking: Learn to do things one-handed or while baby-wearing. Whether it’s applying makeup or fixing your hair, find ways to do it with your baby safely snuggled against you. You'll definitely have some new "guns!"
4. Simplify Your Beauty Routine: Embrace a more natural look or find beauty hacks that save time. Tinted moisturizers, dry shampoo, and multi-use products can be lifesavers. My favorite dry shampoo is the Amika or I have a perfect homemade dry shampoo recipe!
5. Use Nap Times Wisely: If possible, align your getting-ready time with your baby’s first nap. This can give you a few uninterrupted minutes to focus on yourself.
6. Ask for Help: When all else fails, don’t hesitate to ask for assistance from your partner, family, or friends. I know it's so hard to ask for help (TRUST ME) but you need to take care of yourself even if it is TMI to take a poop and watch Tik Toks on the toilet.
Finding Joy in the Imperfection
It's important to remind yourself that not every day needs to be flawless. In the eyes of your little one, you are their everything, and to them, you're perfect just as you are. It's absolutely fine if you don't have everything figured out right now. In time, you'll find your way back. Never feel guilty for not fitting the mold of the 'ideal mom' – such a standard doesn't exist. You are exactly what your child needs, and that's what truly matters.
So remember to embrace the Chaos with a Smile!
